Fidel is an Amharic keyboard for iPhone and iPad with smart transliteration, on device suggestions, and optional haptics. It appears on the device as ፊደል.

Setup and daily use.

Requirements

  • iOS or iPadOS 15 or later.
  • Network access is optional. Typing and suggestions run fully on the device.

Install and enable

  • Install it from the App Store.
  • Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard and select "ፊደል".
  • Optional. Enable "Allow Full Access" to use haptics and settings sync.

Use the keyboard

  • Type te to produce ተ. The same pattern applies across consonants and vowels.
  • Suggestions and autocorrect are enabled by default.
  • Use the keyboard toolbar to toggle haptics.

Troubleshooting

  • If the keyboard does not appear, confirm it is added in Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards.
  • If haptics do not work, enable "Allow Full Access" and make sure system haptics are enabled.
  • If the issue continues, restart the device and add the keyboard again.

Privacy

  • Keystrokes and learned words stay on the device.
  • Full Access is used only for haptics and saved preferences.
  • No ads and no third party tracking SDKs.
